Mona Schafer, SHRM currently serves as the Vice President of People and Culture for Avel eCare, a leading telemedicine provider based out of Sioux Falls, SD. In this position, Schafer oversees all aspects of human resources management for more than 260 employees across three locations in South Dakota, Michigan, and Texas, including recruiting, staffing, benefits administration, EEO compliance, change management, and employee relations.

Prior to Avel, Schafer worked in several different areas within the health care industry such as health plans; revenue cycle; legal; compliance; credentialling, and clinical intelligence. She first began her HR career while serving as a contact for rural critical access hospitals within the Avera Health network. This experience opened her eyes to the challenges experienced by small facilities in rural settings and is what inspired her passion for Avel’s mission of delivering high quality care when and where it’s needed. Schafer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Administration from the University of South Dakota.
